Luminary is excited to add increased value to our hair loss clients with a new service known as Scalp MicroPigmentation (SMP). SMP is an advanced form of medical tattooing, utilizing sterile equipment & ammonia-free, FDA-approved ink specifically used for hair pigmentation cases. SMP is an alternative solution for those desiring increased scalp coverage resulting from hair loss.
Elise has spent her 10-year career as a specialist in medical tattooing & and 3 years ago has advanced to solely specializing in scalp, beard, and eyebrow hair restoration cases. Her artistic eye and extreme technical skills made her a perfect fit into Luminary’s multifaceted approach to hair loss. Dr. Saltzburg and Elise have created a new opportunity for our current and new hair clients to gain increased scalp coverage due to hair loss through SMP treatments. A personalized consultation with Elise will allow you to ask all of your questions regarding the treatments, visualize other patient outcomes, and understand your upcoming experience. SMP full sessions range from $1200-6000, depending on the amount of area needed for full coverage.
We look forward to enhancing your confidence through additional alternative treatment options for those who suffer from hair loss. Scalp MicroPigmentation is a great option for just about any man or woman who is concerned their hair thinning is starting to show through to their scalp. SMP is an extremely safe procedure. All of Luminary’s medical equipment for these procedures are sterilized and are the most advanced medical tools for SMP on the market. This allows us to not only prevent infection & complications, but also allows us to perform these treatments with extreme precision and accuracy as SMP is a very technically challenging procedure. These additional measures yield superior outcomes for our clients.
- Less invasive than surgery
- Less pain
- Lower cost
- Little to no downtime
- No need for extra maintenance
- Safe and secure
- Realistic look
SMP requires between 2 to 6 total sessions for a fully desired outcome. SMP can be performed on portions of the scalp or the entire head, based on the expectations of our clients. SMP is also frequently performed on beards as well as eyebrows for men and women. Once the area of treatment is outlined and agreed upon between you and our practitioner, the treatment plan will be laid out and your appointments will be scheduled all at once. For smaller areas, only 2 sessions may be needed; whereas for a full scalp, for example, a full 6 sessions may be required. These treatments are permanent. Overtime, the ink will fade and oftentimes clients will want a once a year or once every 2 years quick touchup to maintain its strong color. It is of paramount importance that all clients wear sunscreen over the treated area to protect it from sun damage.

There is no downtime with SMP. It is important to protect the treated area for the first few days, most notably from the sun or trauma. All of your post-procedure instructions will be discussed in detail at your consultation
Clients who are looking to have the appearance of more hair are great candidates. SMP creates the illusion of more hair follicles on your head without actually creating or adding new follicles to your head. This treatment option gives the appearance of increased scalp coverage.
For men, those who do not wish to undergo a hair transplant for personal reasons may choose to do SMP instead. For others, the amount of hair that is needed from the back of your head for a successful transplant may be greater than the amount that you actually have to donate. If your donor area is insufficient for a transplant, SMP may be necessary to complement the transplant to achieve desired results. For example, if your crown has thinning that requires 3000 follicular units, but you only have 1500 follicular units available in your donor area, you could combine your FUE with SMP to fill in the entire area. Likewise, some clients come to Luminary for corrective SMP procedures. Most commonly, we perform these corrective sessions after clients have had too many hair transplants elsewhere and their donor region has been overharvested. As a result, there is now a “moth-eaten” appearance on the back of their head from where too many follicular units were taken. SMP offers camouflage over this & is a great option for FUT incisions or any type of scar (burn, surgery, chemical, traction alopecia).
For women, oftentimes SMP is a desired treatment for those who experience thinning in their midline part. Their hair part begins to widen and oftentimes it will continue thinning in a whorl-like pattern at the top of her head, or at her vertex. This treatment gives the appearance of increased follicles right down the middle of the scalp. Another common area for women is along their hairline and back into their temples as they start to thin. Women respond very well to SMP in targeted areas and in conjunction with one of Luminary‘s other maintenance treatment options. You may not receive this treatment if you are pregnant or breast-feeding. Other contraindications to SMP will be discussed at your consult.
Clients who are transitioning from male-to-female or female-to-male are excellent candidates for SMP and for hair transplants as well. Male and female hairlines are vastly different, as well as the expectation of where future hair loss progression can end up. Male-to-female transgender clients will likely need a more rounded & downturned hairline, as well as increased coverage in their crown.
I highly recommend both Luminary and FUE hair transplantation. My care there was outstanding. My hairline has been receding, along with thinning areas around the sides and crown, for a while now. I decided to do something about it and after researching my options, was impressed with advances in FUE hair transplants. I consulted with a few doctors and chose Dr. Saltzburg and Hunter Yard because I was impressed from the get-go. Their expertise was obvious, along with their willingness to take the take time to follow up and answer questions. The actual surgery was remarkably smooth and I was impressed with the time and effort they took to harvest every hair follicle and transplant them. After 2 months, I’m already thrilled with the results and I expect to see continued hair regrowth over the next year.
I had an extremely positive experience with Luminary Hair Restoration!
After months of research, and after visiting another Hair Restoration doctor who I was not happy with, I decided to schedule a consultation with Dr. Saltzburg. I was immediately impressed with Luminary’s immaculate, beautiful facility and with the warm reception.
Hunter Yard provided the initial detailed overview, where I was able to ask all my questions and concerns and provide my history. He immediately made me feel at ease with his down to earth style and attention to detail.
I then met Dr. Saltzburg, who gave me an overview of all of my options, with no pressure whatsoever and made me feel very confident in the potential results for my hair loss replacement. I decided to schedule my NeoGraft FUE procedure.
Post procedure, I can’t say enough how happy I am with the results. My hair replacement has been very natural looking yet has resulted in a significant improvement in my appearance and confidence. My girlfriend is very happy with the results too! Dr. Saltzburg and the team at Luminary Hair Restoration exhibited the utmost professionalism and I give my highest recommendations to anyone interested in hair replacement.
If I had known what kind of results I would get through hair transplantation with Dr. Saltzburg, I would have done it years ago. I suffered for years, from a pretty young age, with a significant receding hairline. It really bothered me, but it didn’t seem like I could do much about it.
A good friend strongly recommended I see Dr. Saltzburg, and I’m thrilled with the results. The procedure itself was not a big deal at all and downtime was minimal. I feel so much more confident about my appearance and I would do this again, 100%. Needless to say, my girlfriend is also thrilled with the results.
Can’t recommend Dr. Saltzburg and her team at Luminary highly enough. Two thumbs up.
